feels like i just entered a new wave (aka phase). different pace, some new things coming around. new perspectives. actually, not even new ones per se, more like my usual ones that were good that i had forgotten about. either way, the bienal art show of são paulo just had its opening (1st pic on post) and it was all the way controversial from the beginning, from what i understood, because the idea was originally "an empty biannual". as a bold statement, the curators are leaving one floor of the pavillion completely empty. funny how curator x artist is maybe too similar sometimes where they both are trying to illustrate a conceptual point. not sure where i stand with that and definitely am not bold enough to state my opinions here. haha... but it was cool on the 3rd floor, where most of the artworks are, how there were no walls and a lot less artists. quality x quantity? the no-walls though, allowed the artworks to create a much more direct dialogue. i really liked that quality. there were no limits/boundaries between one's work and the next. gabriel sierra, for example, was making more practical art functioning as furniture as well. and that furniture was being used, for example, by rivane neuenschwander's artwork. there's a lot more to it, obviously, but i do believe u have to see it for yourself to get it. or leya mira brander's rearrangement of prints constructing a different (or the same?) narrative every time that also spoke directly to vibeke tandberg's work where she cut out all the words of albert camus' "l'etranger" and rearranged them alphabetically cataloguing it word per word.
i'll definitely have to revisit. openings are too social anyways so u never get to look at the actual art.
oh, and pic #2 on today's post? i have this fetish for really full-of-history old and almost falling apart buildings (decaying?) in my city. i'll move one day and maybe get the creaky door apartment with hardwood floors (with huge gaps in between the pieces of wood of course where u walk on them and the floor just moves out of balance but in the same flow as your foot) i don't know why i like them, but i do. just thought i'd share.
well, have a good sunday for whoever's still reading this and accompanying "el blog of cien por ciento julie."
