luckily, i've been greatly inspired lately. we had a huge opening (around 2,400 people came) at the museu de arte moderna de são paulo last night for the exhibition marcel duchamp: a work that is not a work "of art". for those of us who work here at the museum, we get the opportunity of a preview and a run-through of the exhibition with the curator herself, elena filipovic. (and i cannot express enough how much i admire elena) so after 3 hours of hearing every detail possible about duchamp's life, i can say that the more i know, the happier i am. also, duchamp, being somewhat of an instigator as far as art history goes, made people think and question back in 1913 and still does today. there is a strong dialogue between his works and contemporary art and its issues and that is just amazing and so valuable. priceless. (sorry, i had to. i love the "priceless" line from the credit card ads because it just accurately describes so many things and it is mad catchy)
so at work, i love my job, i've been inspired by duchamp's artworks and thought process and his "strategies" of not only thinking about the art object itself but also of everything around it, situation and placement and how it will be seen in the context it will be shown in, etc ... one of many great ideas and concepts of his. truly amazing.
also inspired by elena herself and it's almost an old school idea of do good things and they will come back to u. she's a hardworker, stress free, extremely intelligent person who wants to get the job done well, and gives everything equal importance: from curatorship department to education to big time collectors. reinstates my belief/faith that it is worth doing good without even considering the end results. and reminds me that really what goes around, comes around and that's a good thing.
and last but not least, i bumped into lisa bufano's website and not only does she seem to be a hell of a fighter given whatever lemon life may give, but i saw this video and wow... i'm just in awe. i've watched it a few times. i think it's beautiful and poetic and admirable for the amazing adaptability and acceptance she seems to have. very inspiring. i'm in great admiration all over today... feels so good.
