i cannot explain how much i've always loved chris ware's work. the book jimmy corrigan: the smartest kid on earth is probably the only book i won't let anyone borrow from my library. i love the color palette. the simplicity, like old school unpretentious brazilian comics like turma da mônica, is just very comforting. and i absolutely love the complexity and depth of his concepts. for some odd reason, i like books and photographs that are grey or sad. i love paul auster. i love jimmy corrigan. hm... strange, yet not uncomfortable to me. i find that i don't follow the common usual trend of let's talk about colorful cheery things only!
either way, chris ware just came up in the december 2010 issue of art in america. read the review here. definitely worth it. i think it's starting to confuse me, in a good way, how art and design and now even graphic novels (we used to just call them comic books, didn't we?) is all blurry. do you find the trend uncomfortable as well? is it an easy "evolution" to accept? help!
