i did manage to go see vânia mignone's work and as always, it's a bit confusing why but i do like it. i think it's beyond unpretentious, it's good. it seems, to some people i'm sure, that it's just like any painting but maybe that's the catch. it's simply painting. also, at the gallery, talking to a friend of mine who works there and we were talking that somehow, magically or instinctively (however real your world is), we know when someone has done something good. we can tell when there's a story behind it. we can tell when there's reasons for it, when it's from the heart, when it's been looked at, researched, reviewed and done on purpose. vânia mignone seems like that to me. simply painting but every aspect of it seems to be done very much on purpose.
