today i'll attempt to explain/wonder/frollic with a different dimension, a magical phenomenon. everyone with me? i definitely have a problem with an absolute truth. i cannot just discard people's various perceptions and accept that there is one single truth. facts, yes. different perceptions though. everyone has a unique interpretation and a way of seeing things. but i'm repeating myself, after all, that's what perceptions are.
i have been questioning the world, though, for another absolute concept that i don't yet know the name of. there is an aura (trying not to be too cliche and spiritual here) that everyone catches on to when something is done that is extremely true for you. there is a hitting-the-nail-on-the-head quality to very few things in life. it's one of those times where you really do succeed, everyone recognizes it and sometimes, you wonder "how did that work...?" or "why did this work instead of that?"... ah... the beauty of the no-name-phenomenon. ...
i feel it's the same phenomenon (for lack of a better word), in the artworld, when people just know when an artwork is real and when it's fake. malcolm gladwell's book, blink, might help here. or how about jung's collective unconscious concept? hm... either way, it's not only about seeing something and recognizing its authenticity. people can tell when an artwork is done from the bottom of your heart or not, and in that sense, i use real x fake. i'll use examples in order to explain it better.
the photos above are from a friend's, luciana's, concert last week. i'm not sure why but there is no way she could ever fail as an singer. not only the facts that yes, she has an incredible voice and is just a beautiful person. but beyond that, it just is right for her.
on a completely different scale, the things that are truest to my heart, i keep to myself. i do not open up the things that i hold dearest because i'm human and not that big of a fan of vulnerability. i've been doing the hopes for months now and i've added a tid and a bit here and there. but last post, when i decided to really open up and risk writing all the hopes (and not anonymously as the napkins are), it did hit the spot. people found me that i never even had contact with. a lot of people suddenly commented and checked off the "makes me wanna..." reaction boxes. and not only as a post on the blog but as an artwork as well. i felt the hopes were right for me before telling anyone and people see that magic as well.
wow...
how come? how can people recognize the magic that something so true, or so right holds? what do we see that is different? and then, my next extremely optimist thought is that maybe it is true that when you do something that is very right for you, you will definitely succeed. (and it's the type of thought that you just know. you don't spend that much time looking for what is right for you. it sits there in the back of your head if you do want to see it)
so maybe we shouldn't be afraid of being so vulnerable...
