and yet another city on the trip: hello athens!!
i'm not particularly gonna start on the recent happenings here with the protests and the police but i'll say, at least, that it looks different than what they are "selling" on the newspapers. it's a lot calmer and yes, of course, people are indignant about what happened with the 15 year old kid, alexandros grigoropoulos, but it's never a dangerous city in the sense that i picked up from international newspaper.
anyhow, a lot of mixed feelings about being back here after having lived 4 loaded years from 2002 to 2006. it's nice to see people again and i have a fresh perception of what athens is but the air does feel heavier than in other cities, to me. very bittersweet experience and definitely not what i felt when visiting boston, where i also lived for 5 years. not gonna write too much for now but so far, so good. been out and about with friends, did a load of laundry (thank god) and i'm sleeping on a regular really good bed (not a hotel one). i'm sure the speed will slow down a bit as the days go by and i'll get time to rest and feel the vacation. for now, the best word for this part of the trip is peculiar. hm...
