if anyone ever has the opportunity to watch regina carter play, please go. she is fantastic. spectacular. the performance literally brought tears to my eyes at some point because she is so passionate when she plays the violin. i got heat waves in my body. really.
the woman doesn't need a voice, she talks through her music. playing the violin is her language.
it was rhythm and jazz and serious and sassy. music does well for the soul, we know that, so that was a plus on a friday night in the middle of my long weekend: the jazz symphonic plus regina carter inside the beautiful auditorium at the park. wow. she expresses herself so well (efficiently?) through her violin, i wonder if her spoken english is as full in range of expression and emotion. it feels so true when she plays, you can feel her breathing. also makes me think that in society today, we have to sometimes restrict ourselves. i wonder if she feels the need to restrict herself at all (like society imposed obligation; all those "should"s we're always stuck on) when she plays, as we do when we talk. it feels like playing an instrument is a different world where everything is allowed. it was very liberating to watch and beautiful, of course. i really did feel that i didn't even want to hear the sound of her voice after hearing her fingertips on those violin strings. wow.
sophisticated and passionate.
