good morning. went around some galleries on friday and saw a lot of stuff that got me thinking. (by the way, when u click on an image on this blog, a new window opens and the title of that new window is the credit for the photo or artist's work) anyhow, this friday got me thinking about "what is art?" again. the pictures on this post are photographs from some of the artist's works. the top 2 are video stills from marcellvs. funny, im not a big appreciator of video art, i confess, but these two made me stop and stare for at least 20 mins each. funnier is the fact that the first one barely moved. it was almost a still with some sounds. the image swayed minimally left and right and that easily hypnotized me. it was so peaceful and with no people in it. exactly what i needed. makes me think of the concept that you only hear things when u are ready to hear them. i wonder, if i had gone in any other time and saw this video, if it wouldve touched me as much. the two bottom images, on the post here, are more human in the sense that it was a direct connection between the hands of the artist and that piece of work. no machines as intermediates. (i always think of xray doctors because they dont get too close to the patient. all they see are xray images, for example. so they see the patient but not in a human-to-human connection. skin-skin. hand, touch..) back to the art though, i guess im just surprised that the art that touched me most (this last friday on my crazy almost weekly gallery run/hop) was the video. step further: maybe despite it being video, it was the most humanlike one? im looking at the colorful painting and it doesnt make me feel human at all. even the glass blown sculptures are more soft to the touch than the painting. (doesnt that glass scultpure look like water?) hm.. maybe i like art that feels human? or one made by a human being, and you can notice that, so that i can identify with it? food for thought..
