the more i read about art, the more i find it contradictory. and the more i find it tiring. would i be more of an artist if i were happy about the contradictory aspect and wonder and question and be happy about the process of thinking, overthinking yet getting nowhere? have things that happened in my life made me more prone to rationality and me less imaginative and childlike (childlike in a good way)? i feel maybe i'm just creative but less of an artist lately. is it because i have less contact with it in my day to day job?
i am currently thinking about all this (happily) after attending salon light, a great artist books/prints/posters/tshirts art fair at galeria vermelho over the weekend brought on by espaço tijuana and cneai.
i'm happy to be thinking about it and i miss talking about it with people who also wonder vaguely and get nowhere. the overthoughts would be my impulse into making artwork. the more concept, the more fundamentals, the better it was. more elaborate, more profound (i use the word "profound" shyly), more thought out, and we end up where i started, more contradictory probably. (think about the basic premise of who the artwork is made for? is it for the artist himself therefore making it honest? or is it for the market/buyer/art collectors therefore making it a product? being a product it usually the last thing an artist wants to make, but at the same time, how else can we live in these days? can and should an artist make art only for his or herself and have a job on the side so they don't have to sacrifice their artworks just to make money out of it? and when a person does that, do they take one step closer into not being an artist anymore because they have joined the capitalistic system of today?)
i wish i could talk/think about art incessantly. alone it doesn't go very far. maybe i should gear my reading materials into philosophical questionings written by artistic minds.
